Meet Matt Zaldivar: Strengthening Partnerships Across Maryland & Delaware

At Sovereign Commercial Services, we believe that strong facility management begins with strong relationships. That’s why we’re excited to introduce Matt, our Field Sales Manager supporting clients across Maryland and Delaware. His background in commercial cleaning services and customer-focused sales makes him a standout partner for organizations looking to elevate the look, feel, and performance of their facilities.

A Career Built on Connection and Consistency

Matt’s journey into facility service management began in the field – literally.

“As a teenager, I canvassed door-to-door and later worked phone sales in Colorado,” he shared. “Those early experiences taught me patience, resilience, and how to think on my feet.”

He later spent six years in industrial cleaning equipment sales, gaining hands-on knowledge of solutions that directly impact building operations, efficiency, and cleanliness. He also credits time spent serving and bartending for shaping his communication style and ability to connect with people.

“I bring those experiences into every relationship, territory, and solution,” Matt said. “Sales is less about selling and more about understanding.”

What Excellent Facility Service Means to Matt

To Matt, excellent facility maintenance and janitorial services are rooted in trust.

“It’s about comfort, familiarity, and delivering on promises,” he explained. “Everyone in your building should feel confident in the team supporting them. And communication must be transparent –  no surprises.”

What Sets Sovereign Apart

Matt takes pride in representing a facility service provider built on character as much as capability.

“We’re selective about who we bring onto our teams,” he shared. “We choose people for their skills and the content of their character. That level of care shows up in the work we deliver and in the service our clients experience every day.”

What Facility Managers Should Be Watching For

Matt encourages facility managers to be mindful of two key trends in today’s market:

  1. The Vendor Trap
“If your provider isn’t showing up, following up, and earning your trust – you deserve better. Look for a true partner, not just a vendor.”
  2. Adaptability and Innovation
“The world is evolving, and so is facilities management. Your provider should be willing to implement new strategies and technology to support efficiency, sustainability, and safety.”

Advice for Facilities Exploring Outsourcing

“No two buildings operate the same way,” Matt said. “If you’re considering outsourcing janitorial services or facility operations, choose a partner that takes time to understand your facility’s unique needs – not a one-size-fits-all approach.”

His Vision for Sovereign in Maryland & Delaware

Matt is focused on strengthening relationships and expanding Sovereign’s presence in the region. “I hope to be a pleasantly disruptive presence in the Baltimore–Delaware market,” he shared. “By combining consistency and teamwork, we’ll help more organizations experience the Sovereign difference.”

Outside the Workday

When he’s not visiting facilities or meeting with leaders, Matt enjoys concerts, trying new restaurants, camping, kayaking, fishing, and skating. Fun fact: He’s run with the bulls in Spain, and all of his siblings were born in different states!

Looking Ahead

In his first year, Matt aims to reinforce long standing relationships, build new ones, and introduce more organizations across Maryland and Delaware to a higher standard of outsourced facility services.
