A Century of Service: The Family Legacy Behind Sovereign Commercial ServicesCelebrating Family-Owned & Operated Day

At Sovereign Commercial Services, family isn’t just where our story begins—it’s what has shaped everything we’ve become.

On this Family-Owned & Operated Day, we’re proud to reflect on more than a century of entrepreneurial spirit, community commitment, and family-driven values that still guide us today.

It All Started in Scranton

Our story begins in 1922, when Jacob Fink launched Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company (PPS) in S

cranton, PA. At the time, his goal was simple: serve the mom-and-pop grocers in the community with quality products and dependable service. What he didn’t know was that he was laying the foundation for a legacy that would last for generations.

In 1946, Jacob’s son Jerry Fink returned from military service and helped steer the family business through post-war growth and decades of economic shifts. Through every challenge, the Fink family stayed true to their core values: hard work, resilience, and taking care of people.

The Next Chapter: Sovereign is Born

By the early 2000s, the business landscape was evolving—and so was the Fink family vision.

Seeing an opportunity to go beyond distribution and meet a growing demand for high-quality facility services, Douglas Fink, Jacob’s grandson, launched Sovereign Commercial Services in 2002. What started as an extension of a family legacy quickly grew into Northeastern Pennsylvania’s largest and most respected commercial cleaning provider.

While many know the iconic Scranton tower from The Office, the real story behind this landmark is one of generational leadership and strategic expansion. Douglas’s blend of business acumen and people-first leadership has earned him comparisons to a “real-life Michael Scott”—only with real results and a track record of excellence.

Family Values, Modern Standards

Sovereign’s growth has been steady, but our values haven’t changed. We still believe in making decisions around the table, not just in a boardroom. We treat our clients like neighbors—because many of them are. And we show up every day with pride in our work, just like Jacob did over 100 years ago.

Today, we serve schools, hospitals, office buildings, industrial facilities, and more across the region. Whether it’s a spotless floor, a sanitized classroom, or a pressure-washed exterior, our commitment is always the same: deliver excellence with integrity and care.

Still Family. Still Sovereign.

As we celebrate Family-Owned & Operated Day, we want to thank our team, our customers, and our community. You’ve helped shape this journey—and we’re just getting started.

From our family to yours, thank you for trusting Sovereign Commercial Services. Here’s to the next 100 years of clean.
